Last week Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, Jr. sent out the following email to all of the state employees:
As National Preparedness Month gets underway I want to seize this opportunity to urge all state employees to develop a personal emergency preparedness plan that can be implemented during natural disasters and emergency incidents of all types, including H1N1 Influenza.
During any large scale natural or man-made disaster the potential exists for an incident to exceed an area's immediate resources and response capabilities. In those incidences, the possibility exists that individuals, families, neighborhoods, and businesses could have to subsist with minimal assistance from first responders for up to 72 hours. I understand the preparedness and evacuation concept might be unfamiliar to some of you, but readiness is a responsibility we all need to embrace and incorporate into our daily lives.
It's easy to get ready! For details visit http://www.readycolorado.com/ and Make a Kit, Make a Plan, and Make a Difference. Consider joining a volunteer Community emergency Response Team (CERT) and receive free training that will provide you with the skills needed to help others during an emergency event. Locate a CERT program in your community at http://www.citizencorps.gov and get involved.
